YMS team of business and academic partners from the University of Constantine Philosopher in Nitra published a scientific paper „Analysis of the degree of risk of Covid-19 in cities and villages in Slovakia“ in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

YMS team devotes time to analyzing the risk of the virus spreading since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. Already at that time, YMS used its own solution for support of spatial decision-making, yDecision, to prepare a series of map analyses demonstrating the spreading of the virus throughout Slovakia. The analysis was divided territorially, according to regions, and took into consideration the key factors that contribute to the spreading of the disease, such as population density, the density of points of mass gatherings, as well as critical points of transport and infrastructure network. Read more in this article on demonstration of the types of analyses used in risk of disease spreading analyses.

The aim of the peer-reviewed study by YMS and partners, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, with a high impact factor, was to analyze more deeply the analysis model, which consisted of evaluating partial phenomena of being exposed to the virus, vulnerability, and overall risk. Statistical data, used to evaluate these phenomena, included individual cities in Slovakia. These represent the smallest administrative unit. The professional team applied the s.c. point method. Spreading and transmission of the disease were significantly impacted by transport means, as well as the concentration of inhabitants in selected localities  (shops, cemeteries, and others). Results of the study confirmed the highest risk in regions with the highest intensity (Bratislava, Košice, Prešov, and Nitra). Selection of the type of data, utilized methods, combined with the results can serve as a useful tool to support decision-making in similar situations in the future.
