April, 2023 – YMS and the Banská Bystrica self-governing region (BBSR) have successfully achieved the first in three phases for implementing a complex system for managing property, which will also help evaluate the energy efficiency of regional buildings.

Tens of thousands of data inputs
The system is implemented and functional. In the pilot phase, we input data about the main building of the Banska Bystrica self-governing region. Next comes the most difficult phase, inputting data about roughly 900 buildings, owned or managed by the region,” says YMS Business Development Director, Radovan Hilbert. The system for managing property of BBSR also includes map functions, including a connection to cadastre data, from which it was discovered that over 12,000 entities should be monitored in the Banska Bystrica region. “The phase for filling the system with data is second in line and based on the number of entities it is a very difficult one. Each entity will be inspected by an expert. They will precisely mark the area, size, number of floors, number of windows, shafts, roof materials, all technical and energy equipment, transcribe labels, list power inputs and performance, and the like,” continues Juraj Šipula, BBSR expert-energetic officer.
Implementation intentions
Even inputting the data isn’t the final stage. The most important phase in the project’s success will be user training. “Users of the system will be employees of BBSR, who use the registered buildings for specific purposes, with the majority not having expert knowledge about monitoring energy data. The necessary data will only need to be input a few times a year, therefore the description of use needs to be intuitive,” explains Radovan Hilbert. The plan is to create understandable infographic instructions for entering mandatory data categories, instead of a standard user manual. “When a user’s task will be to monitor, for example, deadlines for revision checkups, inspections, or cleaning, they have to immediately enter the current data into the system. The same goes for all replacements, repairs, or overhauls. The employee doesn’t have time to study a user manual for using the system’s functions, which is why we are looking for innovative ways to make it as simple as possible,” he adds.
The road to full functionality
Statistics and analysis of resource consumption will mostly be used by managers and energy workers responsible for operational efficiency, maintenance, and investments. The system also contains a set of tools that should help increase operations efficiency and fight the energy crisis. Due to the huge amount of objects and collected data, we still have a ways to go before fully implementing the system. However, BBSR management already deserves credit for its ability and willingness to take a bite out of electronization, which only one self-governing region has dared to do so far.
